The Home Economics Department consists of the subjects  Food and Nutrition, Clothing and Textiles and Food Preparation and Service and Home Management.

It comprises of four teachers, namely:

  • Mrs. Albina Popo who teaches Clothing and Textiles and a new area that will soon come on stream: CVQ, Fabric Design.
  • Miss Hester Clarke teaches the Food and Nutrition CSEC to the form fours and fives and is assisted by Mrs. Fitz.
  • Miss Laurent continues to work diligently with the Food Preparation and Service students to get them certified in various units for CVQ.
  • Miss Cyril is  a new inclusion to our department and teaches Food and Nutrition to the lower school.

At present we do not offer Home Management to our students but the school has intentions to make this  part of the department’s curriculum in the next academic school year, 2014-2015.  Home Management is one of the areas that will allow for employment for some of our students when they end their secondary school tenure.

In November of 2013, Mr. Wendell George of St.Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association (SLHTA) in conjunction with Scotia Bank as their main sponsors of  the program “ Chef in Schools”, visited the Food and Nutrition students. During their visit three chefs were available to demonstrate skills that are vital to the preparation of foods such as fish, vegetables, fruits and the making of doughnuts. At that juncture, the students were invited by the chefs to take part in the upcoming Chef in Schools’ competition. Many of our students were quite interested in the whole venture.
