The Social Studies Department introduces the social sciences to the students in a unified manner. The main objective of this department is to engage the learner in skills that will enable him or her to understand social relations existing within the family, community, nation and the wider world.
It also aims to prepare the learner to appreciate the human and natural diversity of the Caribbean region. This is achieved through social participation and evaluation of current issues. Students are given the opportunity to engage in current events such as cultural fairs, debates, symposiums, lectures and visits to historical sites etc. It is the goal of the department that in completing the high school years, the learner would have achieved a social transformation through the awareness, appreciation and contribution of himself or herself to the socio – economic and political development of the nation.
Students are geared towards the completion of regional certificates from as early as the lower class (Grade 7) and by the successful completion of their high school tenure they would have at least completed either the Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence (CCSLC) or the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) with satisfactory grades.
